Bounce Back Scholarship Nov 2025 - Mar 2037

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be of South Sudanese heritage and reside in Australia.
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Have completed Year 12 or higher.
  • Be accepted into or enrolled in a health sciences degree at an Australian university.

Priority Fields of Study

SSAYU will prioritise students pursuing the following degrees:

  • Medicine
  • Dentistry
  • Pharmacy
  • Physiotherapy

Applications from other health-related fields (e.g. medical imaging, paramedicine, occupational therapy) may be considered where a strong case is made for professional impact and community relevance.


What the Scholarship Covers

  • Up to $5,000 for education-related costs (e.g. tuition, textbooks, technology, transport)
  • Optional mentorship with a health professional in the recipient’s field and state

How to Apply

Applicants must submit:

  1. A personal statement (max 500 words) addressing:
    • Your course and university.
    • Why you chose your field.
    • Challenges you’ve overcome.
    • Your future goals and how this scholarship will support them.
  2. A simple budget outlining how you’ll use the funds.
  3. Proof of enrolment or admission.
  4. Your most recent academic transcript or results.
  5. (Optional) A reference letter from a teacher, lecturer, or employer.

Bounce Back Connect Feb 2023 - June 2024

Program delivery:  hybrid format in order:  

§  To allow mentees to gain insight into the world of finance in a supportive environment

§  To provide mentees with an opportunity to develop a meaningful mentoring relationship with senior members of their field of interest

 

Important Information

§  Initial meeting with mentees and mentors – within the first two weeks of the program

§  Regular meetings throughout the year, at least 10 in total; ideally more

§  Discussion topics can range from financial, to lifestyle, to career, to leadership etc

§  A short evaluation survey will be completed at the beginning and end of the program to assess efficacy

§  Mentor is responsible for initiating contact with mentee, subsequent meetings can be organised together but keep in mind the mentor’s schedule takes priority and thus they will dictate when they are available

§  Nature of Bounce Back Connect mentoring is individualise, thus both the mentor and mentee can decide how to best benefit from the program

§  Mentees-mentors and patrons’ dinners. First dinner at the program commencement & another one towards the end of each annual program

Bounce Back Program June 2016 - June 2024

  • 14 – 16 years old
  • Focus on earlier employment skills
  • 2 consistent mentors for each campus
  • Monthly meetings from each campus
  • Maximum of 10 mentees from each campus
  • 80% attendance is a must to graduate from the program (8/10 sessions)
  • Mentee must exit the program after 12 months or get onto the Bounce Back Connect
  • Must show dedication, commitment and enthusiasm to be admitted into the program
  • Consent and passing the interview are requirements of this program prior to participation
